Editing an Oscar-Winning Film
Oscar-winning film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, won four Oscars this year for Costume Design, Makeup, Original Score, and Production Design. And although it didn’t win the category, The Grand Budapest Hotel was nominated for best editing. This link is a quick interview with the film’s editor Barney Pilling. The interview touches on the different editing techniques used, what it was like working with Wes Anderson, and the difficulty of working with various aspect ratios.Another interesting thing to note: Pilling edited the entire film using Avid Media Composer. Many of us question why we still learn Avid, but this film is a perfect example that Avid is still relevant in the industry and it’s a great program to know.
